Diesel DPF Filters
Diesel particulate Filters will eventually block up due to the fact that it is a filter and the motor is burning an oil and results in a dirty soot particles in the exhaust stream. The further you drive the more soot is collected until the DPF system forces an organic regeneration.
If that regeneration is interrupted (turn off the motor, short runs of less than 10 kms etc.) the soot will build and block the DPF and making a organic regeneration null and void (useless)
Once a regular Diesel Filter regneration has been interrupted, it becomes like a dog chasing it’s tail until DPF clean is carried out or total failure of the DPF.
Once a DPF is either cleaned or replaced it is essential that the Oil + Filter
is changed due to the dilutuion of the oil by the rich mixture of regeneration of the DPF
Also the cause of the DPF issues to be corrected also eg:-
- Leaking Injectors
- Turbo oil seals and Turbo to sump drain blockage
- Glow Plugs
- Short Runs
Diesel DPF Regeneration
As most of the domestic driving public use the vehicle for shopping trolley runs (less than 10 kms per run), the vehicle does not attain operating temperature so they are running the motor in a constant rich condition creating a high soot effect. When this occurs the DPF is fouled up with soot beyond what it can handle.
Effectively a diesel will burn approximately 60% of the diesel injected into the motor at each fuel injection, some people will fit chips that increase the fuel injected to gain more power and kick the can down the road for serviceability.
There is a way to clean the exhaust up by installation of what is called bi-fuel, dual fuel, in fact is diesel+lpg. this system will increase your fuel economy by (2010 Triton 200-300 kms per tank of diesel, it will also remove the soot by burning 90% of your injected fuel so no soot — clean and clear oil after 5 years)
Up to 31/12/2003 Euro 3 the lpg system was use of approved installation and after 01/01/2004 a certified kit had to be installed (why I have no idea as the emissions are always less than on strait diesel. As a approved DieselGas installer we are able to service the systems that are out there
